Camp Ho basic mini camp structure. Please print a copy.

Camp Hohepa is all about providing a programme for young people perferably 11 to 15 whereby they are taught the basics of fishing. The camp provides a number of challenges for boys, and also provides the opportunity for fathers to spend some quality time with their sons. The by product of the camps in a rise in self esteem, a chance to think outside the square, and a chance for boys to use their initative and imagination. The fishing factor competition on the Saturday evening teaches participants to work as a team. Clubs, schools, or people interested in putting on such an event in their town or village are invited to participate in the organisation of such camps.

What's required to hold Camp Ho. All we require to put such an event on is a venue near the coast that has a beach suitable for surfcasting, a wharf that can accomodate about 45 odd people, or a reasonably accessible rocky outcrop that people can safely fish from. Near this venue we require a place than can accommodate 45 odd people (shearing quarters, Marae, or local hall. A local hall that can be used as the classroom, and the fishing facor event on the Saturday evening. Also required are some cooking facilities, and some volunteers to prepare the meals. People need to approach sponsors for prizes, meals and the camp Director's fee.

List of materials etc to be supplied by Camp Hohepa Inc organisers (the club/school/organisers): Sponsorship of the items below should be sought. Most businesses if approached warm to the idea of supporting a kids event such as this.

A First Aid Kit suitable for 40 people.

Note:  We try and keep the kids off the sugar during the camp, so the least amount of coca cola, chocolate bars etc the better.  Things are easier on everyone this way.  Some kids take hours to come down and this often has a disruptive affect on the group.  Good wholesome food at meal times works best, with muslie bars and fruit for snacks

Camp Ho Points System:

Fishing points:

Each fish caught is measured from V of tail to head. 10 points per cm for the fish no matter what the size.    A points record sheet is needed to record both individual points and team points. These will be filled in by the nominated team leader usually a parent.

Personal points:

Points from 10 to 50 can be awarded to campers for their behaviour.  Volunteer assistance for instance.  Camp officials allocate these points.  Points can also be taken off for bad behaviour.

Teams:

5 teams of 4 kids.  One adult is assigned as team leader for each team. The other adults will assist as required.

Team names: These can be major sponsor's names and sponsors can provide the logoed caps for their team. 8 one for each child and their parent or guardian.

Fees and costs

Sponsorship of food and prizes etc is great and most business’s will support such a project if and when approached.

We feel that participants should be charged a set fee for the programme.

If the programme is ‘free’ it can upset certain members of the community who perhaps felt their child should have gone on the programme.

We think a $50 fee per child/parent is fair.  Those that can’t afford the $50 could be sponsored by local business’s or service clubs Rotary or Lions or even the Boating Club perhaps.

Bill’s fee for running the camp is $1200.  The $50 fee would go a long way to covering this.

Support for project:

I will be filming the whole event, and a DVD of the programme will be available soon afterwards at $25 each.

We hope this is helpful, and if you'd like to set a mini camp up, Bill and I will come a meet with you and go over the details.
